Over the last 19 months, 18 have seen global average surface temperatures at least 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, continuing a concerning trend of record-breaking temperatures.

The world set yet another monthly heat record in January, despite an abnormally chilly U.S., a cooling La Nina​​ and predictions of a slightly less hot 2025, the European climate service Copernicus says.

Last month was the hottest January on record, blitzing the previous high and stunning climate scientists who expected cooler La Nina conditions to finally start quelling a long-running heat streak.
