For the third time in two weeks, Newark Liberty International Airport air traffic controllers overseeing the busy New Jersey airport were temporarily unable to contact pilots.

On Sunday, Sen. Charles Schumer, a Democrat who represents New York, issued a statement demanding U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy prioritize Newark in the federal government’s new plan to overhaul and modernize the Federal Aviation Administration’s Air Traffic Control system.
